DiamondXX Bridge Fiasco Makes the News
On Tuesday, the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to spend up to $1.2 million to design bridges proposed to replace the two crossings and study their potential environmental impacts.
Public Works Director Tom Garcia said design and environmental work may actually end up costing as much or more than the bridges themselves.
From RecordNet, a Stockton news site. Our supervisor, Debbie Ponte, is mentioned, so at least it seems she has heard of the issue. The article seems confused as to which bridge is being replaced. The Singletree bridge washed away in 2003, but to my knowledge the Stagecoach wet crossing is the only bridge being considered for replacement.
Note to Fish & Game – We will continue to drive over the red-legged frogs and tiger salamanders, squishing their cute little endangered bodies, until we have a bridge. When we have the bridge, they will all hop and slither happily underneath it.
Has anyone actually ever seen a red-legged frog or tiger salamander?

We are commenting on your article in order to add clarity to the bridge discussion because there are actually 2 crossings within the Diamond XX community which are in need of repair: Stagecoach Rd & Singletree Rd.
The photo accompanying your article shows the Stagecoach Low Water Crossing for which a bridge has been in the works for the last 7 years. Grant money was obtained for that project. The Road Committee wrote a status of the project for the Diamond XX website on Sept. 15th of this year. This project is moving slowly through the bureaucracy but we have seen some recent progress and another status report is forthcoming.
The Stockton Record article was about 2 bridges: New Hogan & Singletree. Our community had discussed Singletree at prior meetings, but decided that the Stagecoach crossing needed to be repaired first. With our limited funds, we are only able to tackle one bridge at a time, however, it looks as if Calaveras County has obtained federal & state funds to begin studying a Singletree bridge project. At this time, no Diamond XX funds are involved.
